1982: the Covariate Unrelated Question Randomized Response Model

چکیده

The randomized response technique (Warner, 1965) is a data collection procedure that allows researchers to collect sensitive information while guaranteeing privacy to respondents. For example, if one question from a pair of questions that have the same response options is selected randomly and in private, the question answered by a given individual will not be known to the researcher. However, there is sufficient information from a sample of respondents ( e.g., the total number of "yes" responses and the probability of selecting the sensitive question) to estimate the proportion of the population with the sensitive characteristic. Additional variance for the estimator of the population with the sensitive characteristic results from sampling items with the randomized response technique. The technique described in this paper allows one to improve accuracy of estimation by using a covariate that correlates with the sensitive characteristic but which is itself not sensitive. Theory has been developed for a covariate randomized response model which is an extension of the Warner procedure (Dayton and Scheers, 1980); the present study involveS a similar extension for the unrelated question randomized response technique (see Greenberg, et al., 1969). This study comprises three stages: (i) theoretical development of the covariate model for both IT known and ~y unknown cases, (2) conY struction of efficiency tables that compare the covariate model to the unrelated question model and (3) a demonstration study of the covariate model.

Sensitive questions about people’s behaviors are often discussed in studies in the fields of human, social, and medical sciences. Obtaining valid answers to these kinds of questions is one of the main challenges in the mentioned studies. The most important risk factors for the validity of these studies are response bias and non-response bias, which occur because of concerns about divulging pe...

A stratified unrelated question randomized response model

This 'paper presents a new randomized response model that combines Kim and Warde's (2004) stratified Warner's randomized response technique using optimal allocation with the unrelated question randomized response model. The empirical studies performed show that, for the prior information given, the new model is more efficient in terms of variance (in the case of completely truthful reporting) a...

Adjustment in covariance when one factor affects the covariate.

When a treatment influences both the primary response and the covariate, a standard analysis of covariance may misrepresent the real treatment effect by adjusting out that part of the effect which is manifest in the covariate. What parametric function should we examine if the treatments influence the covariate? An informative analysis would let the complete effects of the levels emerge, yet per...

New Randomized Response Procedures

This article focuses on the estimation of population proportion when the study variable is sensitive in nature. Two implicit randomized response techniques are proposed where the unrelated trait can be chosen subjectively. In addition to unbiased estimation of population proportion and variance, an empirical study is conducted to inspect the relative efficiency facet of the proposed techniques....

Extensive Study of Logistic Regression using Randomized Response Sampling

In this paper, various logistic regression models for several randomized response models are proposed and studied. The effect of choice of parameters in the randomized response models due Warner (1965), Kuk (1990) and the Simmons' unrelated question model on the logit functions has been demonstrated through various graphical representations. The effect on the estimates of the regression coeffic...
